“Fuseki Theory Made Easy!”
Twenty strategic principles to strengthen your opening play
Otake Hideo, 9 dan
176 pp., format 145×105 mm
Preface
In the opening stage of the game, the stones have relatively little direct contact, and at first glance everything seems surprisingly peaceful. On the other hand, trying to decide which move is the biggest can leave you baffled. Everything is so uncertain: it is very difficult to establish a criterion for evaluating different moves. You can, of course, ignore fuseki, but then you cannot hope to improve at Go. After all, it is the foundation of the entire game.
Fuseki is undoubtedly amorphous, but it contains many key points that are critically important to the overall development of the game. Gaining an understanding of these points is, of course, a sure way to become stronger.
In this book, I have selected 20 points that I consider essential and explained them through concrete examples. The book consists of 3 chapters, but this division is not particularly significant. I advise the reader to treat my 20 principles as proverbs and study them until they become second nature (in fact, some traditional Go proverbs are included here). Knowing these principles will help you develop a deeper understanding of fuseki and improve your grasp of its strategic foundations. This, in turn, will help you become a considerably stronger Go player.
